It all started with Joe Sumner in the mid 1960's when he independently engineered and fabricated a solution for his employer. His employer needed reliable and durable welding and lifting equipment. Joe designed and fabricated his own equipment and used them on the job. The performance from these innovative tools far exceeeded what he expected. With his set of tools the jobs were not only completed ahead of schedule but also way under budget. This was a win/win situation for him and his employer. Joe branched out and started his own manufacturing business to fulfill the need of welding and lifting equipment in the mechanical contracting field. To this day, Sumner Manufacturing has grown to expand its manufacturing plants into Canada, the Netherlands, and the UK to help build the equipment to fulfill the need and demand in over 50 countries.
